These definitions achieved their original aim in fostering communication and enabling comparison of study findings among those engaged in research into IFD of patients with cancer and recipients of hematopoietic stem cell transplants (HSCTs) or solid organ transplants (SOTs). The European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer and the Mycoses Study Group Education and Research Consortium (EORTC/MSGERC) consensus definitions of invasive fungal diseases (IFDs) were last updated in 2008.
